The Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI) is dedicated to strengthening immunization systems and advancing pandemic and epidemic preparedness worldwide.
Through country-led partnerships, we help build the systems needed to detect emerging health threats, prevent disease through immunization, and respond effectively when outbreaks occur. Our work focuses on creating sustainable public health capacity that endures long after individual projects or funding cycles end.
As a key program of The Task Force for Global Health, PIVI partners with governments, global health organizations, researchers, and technical experts to improve health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries around the world.
PIVI’s vision is to see every country protected by strong health systems with access to life-saving immunization programs.
PIVI’s mission is to equip countries to detect, prevent and respond to public health threats by creating strong and sustainable disease surveillance and immunization systems.
Our work is designed to support low- and middle-income countries as they strengthen public health systems and build long-term resilience.
We partner with Ministries of Health and local leaders to identify priorities, strengthen existing systems, and build sustainable national capacity. Our goal is to support country ownership and lasting impact.
By strengthening surveillance, immunization, and preparedness systems, countries are better equipped to prevent disease, respond to outbreaks, and protect the health of their communities.
Our integrated approach helps reduce fragmentation and create stronger, more resilient health systems.
Strengthen disease surveillance systems that identify threats early and provide actionable data for decision-making.
Build sustainable immunization programs that protect people throughout life and strengthen readiness for future health emergencies.
Support countries with the tools, partnerships, and expertise needed to respond quickly and effectively to outbreaks and emerging threats.
In 2011, Walgreens approached the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with a question: Could donated excess influenza vaccine help a low-income country with its influenza program?
Since 2013, PIVI has worked alongside countries and partners to strengthen vaccination programs, improve disease surveillance, and advance preparedness for epidemic and pandemic threats.
By investing in national systems today, countries are better prepared to respond to the health challenges of tomorrow.
We work alongside Ministries of Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), academic institutions, technical experts, nonprofit organizations, and other global health partners.
By connecting countries with one another and to a global network of partners, we accelerate peer-to-peer learning, expand access to expertise, and strengthen public health systems worldwide.
